The enigmas of a “little night music”
The immense popularity of Eine kleine Nachtmusik nevertheless conceals a number of mysteries: we do not know what incited Mozart to interrupt his work on the opera Don Giovanni to write this gallant serenade, which he was never to hear played during his lifetime. And yet, it is sheer perfection from beginning to end. Even in light-hearted trifles, Mozart attained the summit of musical art!
